FIRST Sunday

Well, we had a great day at North Pointe Community Church yesterday for our FIRST Sunday Service. It was gratifying to see so many people come and become a part of our journey and hear about the exciting things that North Pointe is already doing. We heard from our Youth Missions team and leaders and experienced FIRST hand some of the great things that our children experienced at our Fiesta Day Camp -- our FIRSTjoint venture with Gateway Alliance.

Thursday Update:

What a productive week! Unloading and unpacking 4 trailers has made for an unbelievable experience this week. The hearts of our tireless volunteers are truly appreciated - our staff in particular wish to thank those volunteers who helped setup and clean desks, cabinets, etc., and then helped with the filing after that! And thanks to the volunteers who brought nourishment in the form of coffee and homemade squares - we received confirmation that we do indeed have the best square-makers in town!

Now, on Friday at 1:00 p.m., the chairs for the sanctuary are arriving. We expect to be done by no later than 3:30 p.m. So, if you would like to help with that effort, then by all means, we would love to have you there.

Otherwise, remember to bring a friend on Sunday for our first service at North Pointe! Refreshments at 9:00 am, Service at 10:00 am.

Tuesday at the Pointe

What a great day. The North Pointe Team, volunteers and staff included, dug deep today to offload three (3) trailers. We started around 9:00 am, and ended about 8:30 pm. Thanks go out to everyone who participated in this large effort today.

Now, for tomorrow, we need volunteers throughout the day, but will be done and out of the building by 5:00 pm. So, there will be no volunteer assistance required in the evening tomorrow.

Transition

We need help! Tomorrow we begin offloading three trailers at our new home. If you can come and help, we will be there from 9 am - 9 pm. We will be continuing to work at North Pointe on Wednesday, also from 9 am - 9 pm. If you can come in for a couple of hours on either or both of those days, that would be great! Help us get our home set up for Sunday.

This Sunday is a very special Sunday, being the first in our new home. Though our meeting starts at 10:00 am, we hope you will come a bit early this week. We guarantee a warm welcome and a handshake as well as coffee, juice, drink boxes for the kids, and muffins for you to enjoy as you check out the new place. Join us as we learn from Pastor Bob's talk: "Here's the Pointe."

Our Fiesta Day Camp, run in conjunction with Gateway Alliance began today, and it was spirit-filled. Heather Yule, Barbara Farquhar and Jessica Ross, along with the other leaders in this camp, have done an incredible job to organize this week-long camp filled with activities for kids in grades 1 through 6. We can hardly wait to hear the stories from this camp of over 100 kids. Let these pictures inspire you:

Wednesday Update

Wow! 4 movers and truck really help get the job done! We are done for today and it is 12:00 noon. So, if you had planned to come help this afternoon and/or this evening, thank you so very much for your desire, but today go ahead and figure out a way to stay cool in this heat instead!

In the meantime, our next task is to unload the remaining three trailers on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, July 11-13 from 10:00 am - 9:00 pm. We will be getting some assistance again from movers, but we still need all the help we can get, so if you can mark one, two or even all three days on your calendar, that would be GREAT!

Transition - Week Two of the Move

Well, last week was a productive week of sorting, packing and loading furniture, equipment, office files, etc., at our downtown Central Tabernacle location. Through extreme heat, but with great anticipation of the future to come, we loaded up three trailers and a fourth is to be loaded still - if you can help on Tuesday evening, please come to Central at 6:00 p.m. We anticipate being done no later than 9:00 p.m.

Wednesday we must unload one trailer at our new North Pointe home. We will be starting at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning and there will be movers helping us. If you can come in the morning, that would be great. If you are planning to come later in the day, please check this blog for updates -- once the trailer is offloaded and the work is complete for the day, we will put a notice on this site.

A huge thank you goes out from Pastor Bob and his team to all the volunteers who donated countless hours of time this past week, and who will be assisting us this week and next as we get ready to make our home in Northwest Edmonton.

Tennis Tournament - June 10, 2006

The North Pointe Tennis Open was held on June 10, 2006. The weather was beautiful with lots of sunshine and scattered clouds. 30 people came out to test their physical and mental skills on the Jasper Place Tennis Courts. We played a Round of 16 Tournament with Full Feed-In Consolation from 8 am - 12 noon. Then, we had a barbeque where Cliff & Harriet Hastman and Charlene Korzan prepared and served a great lunch to those that worked so hard!

Giant

To the left is the platform wall of our new ministry centre. This past weekend, The Selfish Giant tried to build a wall to keep all little kids out of his garden. In the end, though, he realized how selfish he was being, and when the wall came down,that's when things started turning around for him. Unlike the Giant, we will not be putting up barriers to relationships and invite young and old alike to come into our home.
Thanks to the many volunteers, kids and adults, who sacrificed their time and resources to take part in this production. Thanks as well, to the hundreds of people that attended and supported this entertaining production.

Baccalaureate

Here are some pictures of the Ministry Centre at North Pointe. Our Sunday morning service on April 30 will be the Vanguard College's Baccalaureate. We will watch as those going into ministry graduate and begin another journey. Speakers at this service will be two of our own: Jason Rust, Graduate and Youth Pastor, and Steve Hertzog, President of Vanguard. The next time our church hosts this service, the Ministry Centre to the right will be the backdrop.

North Pointe Activities

To the left is a picture of our lights being put in the Activity Centre at North Pointe. One activity that we are really looking forward to here is basketball -- expect to see a variety of different groups playing here in the future! In the meantime, the men in our congregation are meeting tonight at 7 pm and will be watching the NCAA championship game, and hearing testimonies of men who are experiencing growth and discovering their purpose. Come to Men's Night and find out what we are all about. The cost is $5.00 and covers these activities as well as wings, veggies, drinks and dessert!

It is exciting to see this area progressing so quickly, just like our youth sometimes seem to progress so quickly through their teen years.

Birch Bay Ranch

Take a look at the platform in the Ministry Centre of our new home. This past Saturday, despite inclement weather, loyal supporters of Birch Bay Ranch, and music fans of Darryl Fraess and the Cross Country Band, Fiddlers in the Woods, and Rule of Nines, convened at the Birch Bay Ranch Benefit Concert.

Though the weather had a definite impact on attendance, it seemed to inspire generosity in those that were able to make it. Thank you to everyone who supports Birch Bay Ranch. Lights

Here is a somewhat dark picture of the lights in our new Ministry Centre. This Saturday, March 18, 2006 at 7:00 p.m., the lights in our current sanctuary (at Central Tabernacle: 11605 - 107 Avenue) will be shining brightly on several bands in our annual Birch Bay Ranch Benefit Concert. Our own Darryl Fraess will be performing with his Cross Country Band. In addition, we will have a group of fiddlers. And to top it off, we have an award-winning rock group from Calgary, Rule of Nines.

We are very pleased to be offering this night of great music to the Edmonton community and for the support the community has had for Birch Bay Ranch, and its camps that shine light into so many childrens' lives.

Please join us in this music-filled experience. After the concert, there will be an informal reception where you may meet the artists. Admission is free, with a free-will offering being taken to send kids to Birch Bay Ranch this summer.

40 Days of Purpose

Open House - February 25

On February 25, we had an Open House at our new home - North Pointe Community Church - for members of our congregation to see the progress of the construction. Board members and leaders in the church conducted tours and a good time was had by all. There was a GREAT turnout, and the feedback has been very positive and encouraging as we move into the final phases of construction.
